Hi everyone. I’m totally new here and looking for some advice on building a stand up paddleboard. I plan on building a board out of XPS from Home Depot (this stuff: http://www.homedepot.com/p/R-Tech-2-in-x-4-ft-x-8-ft-Foam-Insulation-310891/202532856#.UdJlVz7wLn1). I am also going to use Solarez because I’ve heard it is easier to use than traditional resin becaue there is no mixing. I was wondering with a 9’ 6" board, 34" wide, how much of the resin I will need. I am going to coat the board in with thier Zerovoc product so my foam does not melt. How much of this will I need? Thanks so much for the help!
I would suggest to not go that route but that’s just our opinion. Since the XPS isn’t very porous the resin won’t really soak in or rest on top unless you put on a really thick coat which has it’s own set of problems. Guys have tried over the years to use that foam but it ends up looking pretty bad because you have to stack them, glue them and then cut in your own rocker and you end up spending a pretty penny on the wrong foam and a ton of energy. Why not just get an SUP blank that is designed for the SUP you want to make?
