Quick polyester question... for speedy [UV] repairs

Hey guys!

could anyone please tell me what polyester mix you use for hotcoats?

do you use lamming resin mixed with extras?

or is there a different resin that you use [with extras?]?

If you add extras, what are those extras and how much? I know of wax-in-styrene?

Can i add UV catalyst to any polyester? [and add hardener anyhow, a little bit, Kokua tip]

Thanks a lot, i am looking to speed up polyester repairs

normal lam resin + uv cat + a shot of wax in styrene then add a bit of catalyst in that order. as you are in a cold country too i warm up my lam resin first so the catalyst always goes in last.

if your resin is a bit thick add a squirt of styrene to thin it out.

is this just for dings? or whole hotcoats?

Hi Paul

Just for repairs, from average to pretty gnarly and bigger ones.

So i can basically use just one resin, nice.

Thanks again, and i see someone put up a poly 101?

Cheers.

Yes. As long as you have access to styrene and wax and know how to mix it properly with laminating resin.

Howzit wouter, instead of trying to make SA with styrene and wax just buy it at any place that sells resin since they should carry it and then you just add it to your lam resin and you have sanding resin. You can also buy UV resin but you can't let any sun reach it indirect or direct till you are ready to kick it off. If you do use UV resin then when you use pigments or do fin boxes, fin systems and leash plugs you need to use catalyst to kick it off since the sun can't get to the resin through pigment or the boxes and plugs. If you are making lots of boards then buy your SA by the gallon from your materials supplier since it is way cheaper. I used to pay $22 for a gallon but they wanted $6 for 4 ozs which is rip off in my books since you might have enough for 2 boards with 4 oz but you can do a bunch with a gallon. Aloha,Kokua
