i have a makita sander i use to polish with. it’s 3000 r.p.m.'s. to get a showroom finish, what is the optimal speed for polishing. thanks
Technique and sandpaper grits are more important for a perfect showroom finish than the rpm’s.Sand thoroughly with a slow(1750)sander with 400,600,&800 or 1000grit,changing the paper when it gets too clogged.Use a soft powerpad, not a medium or hard. Most guys use a 5000 or 6000 rpm with a wool bonnet for the compound.Finish up with some liquid ebony or Mcquire’s #7 to really make it shine.A 3000rpm works too,it just takes more time and muscle.
Nice summary. I copied and pasted it. The only thing I might add is Rob Brown’s technique of cutting the paper with angled cuts as opposed to round. Thanks. Patrick
