Personally, resin tints, gloss coats, and pinlines do inspire me to surf as well as I can, as they invoke images of moments in surfing I aspire to, not to mention fostering creativity through artistic expression. I don’t try to protect them or treat them differently that a clear or sanded finish. In fact, nowadays, I associate production shaped clear sanded finishes, as well as candy coated one tone surf techs, with cookie cutter off the rack everybody’s surfing why not me group mentality. The days of the clear finish black wetsuit underground no longer seem relevant to me, I’d rather have something a little different than everyone else. Also, I find my tinted resin gloss boards hold up much better than others I have had. Just my feelings, I know that color is just color, and nothing more, but I like it and it adds to my experience.
yeah i feel the same way
what are pinlines though
nysurfer. i sent you an email. check it.
Steve Forstall CODA Surfboards… Melbourne… For the guy looking for a shaper in Fl. for Retro Twins…
thats usually why we usually began shaping foam, at least for me. I wasn’t satisfied with the satus-quo and what was available(cookie cutters and sales people)so i did what what most of us have done…aquired the necessary knowledge for our craft and set out upon our own to be successful at it. i think most of us on this website are basically cut from the same cloth yet independent enough to step out of the mold and take a few risks no matter how old and stagnent we may think we’ve become. i love acid splash, resin pinlines, etc. but a shortboard usually catches hell. just look at the used board rack at your local shop. how many times have we heard “man i bought the board 'cause it looked cool”.
NYSurfer7- Where in NY are you? I live in Rockville Centre. I picked up an old Sunset single fin last summer, a 6’2, your welcome to give it a try before going out and buying something. Email me if you want to check it out. surfny4657@aol.com
yeah im from the new york city area but i go out to Gilgo* on a weekly basis
Just to clear things up a bit, Tom Eberly did shape the Rabbit Bartholomew Model when he produced the Hot Stuff line of surfboards(after Lightning bolt). They were mostly twin fins, four fins and thrusters, including six channels, and they were great surfboards!
The board that Tudor surfboards produce as their “Rabbit model” was shaped by Stu Kenson (that would be me) and is still produced (hand shapes) thru my website , listed under the RB model
Have a nice day, sk
YOUR STU KENSON
your boards are beautiful how much do they run for?
the website has a price list
right
You’ll have a SK single fin “full equip” for 550 (i saw it on his site), with tints and polish, and this would be my choice.
Have you seen any Mutant? it must be a sweet board.
I hope Stu will came to Europe in the next decade to shape some boards ;).
What a small world! Nysurfer7…I surf Gilgo alot…actually almost every weekend this past june (not that there was much). Its possible we’ve surfed together although gilgo can get lonely . A friend has a beach house there… Anyway Your welcome to try any of the boards I own. I have a S.E. retro Fish, S.E. single fin egg, early 80’s Maddog twin/thruster or an owl chapman twin. I’m currently working on aquiring a 70’s single fin. Next time I’m out on LI we’ll get you on something with some classic lines…I will say my retro twin is my new favorite board. Great for our crappy surf.
thanks
Brent
ps. drop me an IM (notakook7) or E-mail (notakook7@yahoo.com)if you have any questions
NYsurfer7, I’m from Long Beach and surf (or at least try to) Gilgo on a regular basis. A friend’s family has a beach house out there in the West Gilgo Beach Assoc (or whatever it’s called) right off Ocean Parkway past Tobay. That’s actually how and why Brent surfs Gilgo as much as he does. That 6’7" single fin egg he speaks of (from storm equip) was actually my wedding present (so he doesn’t actually own that one ). Anyway, give me a shout any time you’re heading out there and we’ll see if we can hook up. My crew (unless Brent’s there, I’m the only surfer most of the time) usually parks it right around where the underpass is from the Beach Assoc. Feel free to give me a shout as well:

So, just to clear things up, I wonder since Tom originally made the Rabbit Model, how does it now become yours and Joel’s? Or, yours? Or Joel’s?
