Does anyone know how much these are
and also how much is the karma shape
some siccks boards
I think they run in the $650 - $700 range for all of the JT shortboards. Definitely pricey but beautiful boards. I do agree though (from your other thread) that you could find similar performance in a custom board for alot less $. I’m sure CI and Joel Tudor designs are not the only ones that can do a resin tint and a gloss coat.
yeah 700 is really way to expensive for a kid like me to have
it’s just cabbage!
hu?
Just a suggestion but you might want to see if you could find an older 70’s type single fin and ride it a few times before buying one of the boards that you are looking at. Used board racks at your surf shop, garage sales, old guys with big garages - all good sources. Not that these new retro designs probably don’t have some improvements over their predecessors but I think you could get the general idea of one by riding that crappy looking brown thing in the rafters of your neighbor’s garage. Personally, I let my eyes talk me into spending a bundle on a shiny yellow single fin board that I never liked and wound up selling cheap. The good news is I took the money from that and applied it to another experiment - a chris birch twin fin fish - that I absolutely love. Anyway, the message is - if you can, experiment before you buy.
yeah i think im gonna experiment, deffinetly…
were did you pick up that chris birch twin fin
ebay??
No, I picked it up on the used board rack at my local shop, Ocean Magic, in Jupiter FL. $200 - practically new. So far I have ridden it from knee high junk to shoulder high reef break to overhead plus beachbreak and it has performed in all of them.
thats a great price
is it similar to this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=22710&item=3686942145&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
Yes, its pretty similar. Mine has a wide point more forward and it doesn’t have those wings near the tail. That board looks a little more modern than mine. I’m thinking about ordering a custom twin fin from Chris as my next board - a little smaller than the one I have now.
Does anyone know of any other FL shapers building twin keel retro-ish boards?
how do you go about ordering a custom shape from Chris i cant seem to find any info on him
no offense, but you need to connect the dots a bit more, you keep asking the same questions here and at nysurf…and surfer mag
Chris Birch, I told you last night to check All Seasons search in Long Beach. They do customs. This will be the most direct connection to Chris you can get, short of calling Ricky’s factory, which they won’t appreciate. Ask for Len, he’s worked with Chris and Ricky for years.
HOWEVER, you seem to be concerned with price, and I’ve heard $420 or so mentioned a few time. You asked about Bunger and resin tints, any board with resin work or volan cloth or pinlines, etc. is going to be more money that a simple clear finish.
Tudors, Channel Islands, and Birches, among others, are SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive. Be prepared to drop 650 and up.
Once again, just trying to help.
thanks for your input
and everything is just up in the air thats why im asking all these questions at all these fourums
i just want my money well spent
these boards were shaped by Tom Eberly of Lightning Bolt fame. He shaped Rabbits and the entire Pipeline crews boards for years. They are some of the truest masters in the entire Tudor collection and most likely will be some of the easiest and funest boards to ride (prices I don’t know)
yeah i feel the same way
what are pinlines though
never mind, I really have nothing to add to any of this foolishness.
how about opaque resin tints?
is that just a retarted question?
i’m awake now. old men like used to call paper money “cabbage”. anyway, nice looking board on ebay. but just like the jt, how is it going to ride for you and your area in which you surf? being from fla, i know we don’t get a whole lot of consistant surf. the one on ebay is probably made to squeeze everything it can out of small waves, while the rabbit comes to life in better conditions. with surfboards rocker and bottoms of boards (like women)are everything. thats why clark has “private rockers”. its kind of like a copyright. and thats also why the term “magic board” will always exist. some have it and some will never find it.
I’ve order a custom 6’7 single fin egg and a 6’2 retro fish from Matt at storm equip. surfboards (www.stormequip.com) out of FL and loved them both. there’s no fancy glass work unfortunately but I got both boards at great prices (run about $300) and more importantly they ride insane.Thats one avenue you can take. I like the unknown guys. I stopped buying expensive boards cause I have a tendancy to drop them or break them. Otherwise just look around. Surf prescriptions is doing some awesome retro singles now and I’ve seen a few Rusty’s on the rack with classic lines. agin though expensive…I think you need to figure out a few things: Price range and specifics of the board. There’s to many ways you can go.
think of it this way…do you want to impress others with a cosmetically expensive board or a board that inspires you to try harder. if a board becomes your favorite because of its abilities, its gonna get used alot and transported alot-therefore it will show it early in its life. its there to serve you. its not the master, you are. so get one you won’t be afraid to push the limits with.
right on
