finally got to spend some time with a 6’2c and had a great night! got the template for a new fish cut, foiled it, cut the rail bands but then i got a bit carried away with the planer…
i took a very shallow cut past the point where i wanted the rail (fins and back) to be sharp.
after blending the rails i still have a bit of roll in the rail that i didnt plan on, past the fins.
so should i
not worry about it
try and add some more vee to the tail to loose the roll in the rail.
glass it and use some hot coat to make the edge sharp
But if it is something you want to fix when you hot coat the board you could as you mentioned make a little well on the rail to sharpen it. I have done the p same thing on a swallow tail but only to make the tail stonger. I still got a sharp edge.
just to keep you updated on the progress on this one…spent a few long nights and the rails came out fine.
had a good night glassing, got my laps down and hotcoated it ok.
then sanded and ready to put the fcs fin plugs in, opted for a quad set up, rushing to get the board ready for a trip down the coast this weekend.
so its just heading to midnight, im starting to slow down, mark the fin bases, dig out the fcs fitting kit, and drill the first 7 out of 8 holes when the battery dies on the drill. oh well back on to charge.
whilst it does i am checking out the rest of whats in the fcs fitting kit box - oh yeah the white “put your plugs here” guides - didnt need those then… woooooooowwww…
yes i did - i drilled the holes at either end of my fin base lines rather than where they should be!!!
after a bit of panicing i drill the correct holes, removed the foam and glass and dropped it back in to the wrong holes, bit of resin and filler and its worked out fine. the fins look better where they are now as well!
pretty please with the final outcome, despite this and forgetting to write down any numbers on the bottom or putting a decal on it…
live and learn, off to order some more blanks now… loving this…
if i figure out how to put some images online i will post some of the finished board, and if it works i will post back…
