Rails for a Fish

I am having trouble with the rails on the fish I am shaping right now. I’m confused on how hard my rails should be and were the should become soft at the nose.

Also I’m am confused about the rail bevels how wide the should be how much I should take off of the rail.

Any help would be great

Sean

on average…the fishes ive looked at (alot), seem to start transferring to a hard rail about half way to a third of the way down the length of the board (from the nose), and are completley hard by about 2 1/2 feet form the tail…those are very very rough estimates, but they may get you on your way.

Ain’t no “shoulds” in surfboard design!

Some guys like blocky rails.

Some guys like thinned fine bladed rails.

Some guys like soft with extreme tuck.

Some guys like hard and edgy for response and speed in slower waves.

You designer, go design the rails.

Thanks for your help guys

and I understand wut u are saying Lee

Hard till one shaka from the fins. Soft all the way up - either rounded (baseball bat) or turned down, both work. Make sure your nose is nice and thick.
