Rare FL Event

go to www.gulfster.com for pics

GT, just saw your pic on 2ndlight.com, looks like you found the prime spot

along with a few hundred of your good friends. Our man Kenny Kozack is

right next to you in the photo, did you see him get some good ones? C’mon,

spill the beans… How good was it?

saw your pic on 2nd lite to how did the griffin 5 work for you?I was goin to go over there but it didn’t look quite good enough.Surfed my local breaks and had a blast.

Good eye. With just the tip of my Griff showing in front of the curtain, you spotted me.

The pic’s say it all on gulfster.com.

What the pics don’t show is the 12 inches of depth in front of those barrels. I counted 3 Emergency Trucks on Sunday dragging people out. Two on stretcher boards, one probably just swallowed some water. Current was measured (by someone) at 6 mph. I would say on Sunday it was a solid head high and barreling top to bottom by the end of the day.

The gulf can really surprize you. The Indialantic area can be mushy most of the time, but when the Gulf fires, it’s top to bottom. You have to get to your feet in a nano sec and don’t even think about a bottom turn. You just need to be going down the line quick. If I had had a brain, I would have invited you over. Next time.

As for Kenny, well, he is incredible. Covered up, high line rocket ship. (People were staring at him. I of course let everyone know that he was my friend and we hung out together all the time and actually had breakfast together that same morning. They stared at me too, but not the same way. Ha) He only rode your Coil and…just damn… he was amazing. Can’t wait for mine. I didn’t know I would see him over here or I would have asked him to bring mine over. What a guy, what a board, what a day. Or two. Went back this morning for a second session. Smaller, less wind, but still very fun. Lots of East Coasters returning the favor with their presence.

That is all I’m saying. Here.

Mike, I just wasn’t thinking. I should have called you to come over. Got a spare bedroom, too. Would you be interested next time?

BTW, my vanity got the best of me. There is no pic on 2ndLight, right? I couldn’t even find Kenny on gulfster.

Kenny was amazing. Your Coil was amazing. If I can find a pic of Kenny, I will add it to your Coil thread.

Well, I love the Griff. Who wouldn’t. Of course today someone stopped me and remarked that 5 fins were a little over the top. I would have said that “my surfing did the talking, buddy”, but that wouldn’t have done Greg Griffin any good. Ha.

It’s hell getting old.

But!!!. The real news was Kenny Kosack on Mike Daniel’s Coil. People were staring and whispering omg under their breaths. He really got us all charged up to push ourselves.

Sorry you didn’t make it over. We could have squezzed you in. Somewhere.

Goodness

Glad you and Kenny were among the ones who scored, looks like it was

really, really good. I’ve caught it almost like that, but it was a long time

ago. It’s such a fickle call it’s hard to commit to going over, especially

when there’s plenty swell over here at the same time.

J-low should post up that first pic (the A-frame) off that set from 2nd light.

Is that the one where the tip of your nose is showing? That’s how we ID

Wes Laine in Outer Banks shots, you’re in good company…

Couldn’t find the pics, unfortunately.

I just noticed that those two guys are each holding boards shaped by two AMERICAN CUSTOM SURFBOARD SHAPERS who are about 5000 miles apart. And I thought “gee that’s neat.”

"Gustav is getting ready to cross Cuba and get into the Gulf, so swell over there is assured. It’s also

at 125 mph winds, and predicted to strengthen further. Get Greg Tate and solosurfer to take you to

their secret spots."

haha yeah thats what you need over there, a secret secret spot. i was lucky last year and got some good ones @ pensacola but couldn’t believe my eyes when i came down 7:30am on a working day and the 2 peaks were packed with about 50 surfer uuhhhh.

Practically Mexico, but it’s Texas.

South Padre^^^^

Down Corpus way vvv:

Bangs head on desk

curses south Texas job market

a buddy of mine from Nj, a number of years ago qualified for some surfing nationals contest in huntington Beach. Out of the competitors he drew for a his heat, on was a texan and he thought to himself “Man this is going to be a piece of cake there arn’t waves in Texas, he isn’t going to be able to handle this head high stuff.” He was quite upset with his results.

wow. Perfect for your 8-0. Hope you get some.

I didn’t get anything like that south coast stuff, but I did get my longest ride ever, with lots of turns, and about 2/3 of the way back to the beach from about 250 yards out, my legs started hurting. I love that board, Greg–thanks again, in public.

Okay here’s some more–the peeps around here are trickling them out–tis one has a little Florida connexion:

Oh my god.

I am a FOOL. Next time, I call in sick–projectile everything–throbbing prolapsed everything–I’m out there on the south coast baby.

nice looking surf…why are those guys sitting in the channel watching those waves peel off?

Sizey outside sets were intermittent even up here hundreds of miles closer to the storm, but down there, those must have been even rarer birds–I would think. Everyone here was trying to get every one of these gems possible, and re-forms off those were gonna be okay. Guaranteed some of the boys picked those outsiders off down south though.

So clean and that water is 80-85 deg F. Nice big sand-bottomed pushing swells from 400 (+?) yards out. Beautiful blue-green banks to ride and ride and ride.

And on the inside, up the coast a ways, was fun to be had as well:

Looks like the gulf is getting another shot

heading down for the weekend so it works out for me, ill be sure to post up some pictures
