Howzit, SC. In all seriousness I’d suggest re-thinking your plans. I mean, everyone knows the gulf can’t hold a decent-sized swell.

As a matter of fact, it’s probably best that everyone here just save themself the hassle and head over to the right coast for some real waves.

could be good Mon./Tue. on both coasts. Heck this is FL, good is epic!

I’ve already chosen my side, the South Coast, hopefully making it back to the E. Coast for leftovers.

Im in Jax… aka the western most break on the east coast… aka the armpit of the east coast

it has been pretty fun the past few days, seems that we have had decent waves since fay came through. and it is only getting better.

fingers crossed

Dont listen to dude posting about the gulf being that bad, it does suck, but it can get super hollow… I grew up surfing gulf coast winters and could point you in the right directions for breaks that will hold good swell.

Yeah SC, it’s been fun everyday this week. Wish I had more time to surf, been really busy.

I sneak out for a quick go when I can, but not as much as I’d like. Clearing the schedule for

next week though!

I know whats up I have surfed over there many times and it gets real good. You guys come over to the eastside all the time.Tell me where your at and I will come to your break this time with a whole shit load of east coast guys.

howzabout grabbing a few pics Dave?

stoked to see that swell chart I bet.

Steve

Will try Steve but winds will likely not be favorable. It seems every year around this time, FL is going bonkers with tropical storms. It wasnt like this in the 80’s & 90’s. Ocean is boiling hard.

Gustav is getting ready to cross Cuba and get into the Gulf, so swell over there is assured. It’s also

at 125 mph winds, and predicted to strengthen further. Get Greg Tate and solosurfer to take you to

their secret spots.

Hannah, on the other hand, is extremely hard to pin down, forecast path changes with each new advisory.

If it goes into the Bahamas, east coast Florida will only see ‘‘Victory at Sea’’ conditions. Up the coast will

be better but not epic by any means. But this is all subject to change…

Currently we have waist high combo chop here. It was better 3 days ago. Forecast winds are not good.

The infrared loop is impressive. Be sure you scroll over and catch the edge of the one just coming off Africa.

It is indeed surf (and disaster) season for us.

Real-time data indicates Gustav’s pressure has dropped from 953 millibars to 935 mbs in just over 2 hours. That’s nuts!

I agree, and just heard the news of intensification and major pressure drop.

It’s kind of nuts too hearing of people networking to drive hours and hundreds of miles on a goose chase. Too me, it looks as if the east coast will be in for the long fetch surf for a while. Who knows? Good luck.

Shoots, I would say so but I dont surf that coast anymore now that I live in orlando… unless I go down to visit family. Gonna check out cocoa or smyrna tomorrow… bring it on hanna

Shear forecasts show Gustav might be weakened slightly but it’s still highly possible to hit cat 4 status before hitting the Louisana coast…this is not a storm to be trifled with.

Good luck to anyone getting out of harms way.

Steve

Gustav’s swell hit the Florida gulf coast yesterday afternoon, no doubt

it was good somewhere (and the guys that got it probably aren’t going

to tell). Pics will start filtering out soon. On the world scale, it’s not that

big a deal, but considering their everyday conditions, they scored. The

waves over there are a lot ledgier and quicker than you’d think. It can be

very challenging. A nowcast from the Gulf would be nice, somebody?

Over on the east coast, the long-period SE swell from Hannah has shown

up, but with 10-15 kt onshores. The 20-mile Canaveral bouy just went to

9 feet @ 14 seconds.
