Ratios for Transparent-Grey Epoxy Resin Tint

Any glassers have close percentage ratios for black and white pigments for tinting an epoxy lamination to a nice grey/clear? Still want to see my black decals on the foam, and might shoot an orange logo after the hotcoat/before gloss.

Thanks.

Pico, Barry. Thanks.

Vaeske, I don’t really have a set ratio mix as I use so many different quantities of resin.

My deal is I add the pigment slowly.

I stir the resin until consistently the same color.

I use a stir stick and hold it up out of the resin bucket with the light shining through it.

For me, the color of the resin dripping off the stick, is the color it will be on the board.

Or you can do a tester on a scrap piece of foam with a little fiberglass.

To make a nice clear/grey, just add a little white (milky) and just a drop of black.

That’s how I do smoke color tints.

The more white you add, the more opaque it becomes.

I add pigment first. Then hardener by weight.

Good luck.

its touch and go for amounts especially with epoxy. Because you can leach out a lot of resin for a proper epoxy lam you may want to go a bit heavier than you would think, however, the more tint you add the weaker it will be. imho adding color to epoxy is counter productive. I would just paint the shaped blank.

white is always opaque, so don’t add any if you want it to be clear. I would only use a few drops of black if you must tint the resin. Add the logo before the hotcoat. No need for a gloss coat with epoxy because you can sand it after each step. Good Luck!
