Hey Ben,

Saw Richard last week and he is working on movie(editing I think) and surfin insanely on an Alaia. I told him we were anxiously waiting…he said in the meantime to check out  some pieces of it that are out on the net.

I have never seen anyone go as fast as he is going on the Alaia…really blew my mind!!!

Roger

Ben,

I owe you an email, it’ll happen soon I swear! The new Kidman thing is this:

Last Hope is 16 short films made by Jon Frank, Albert Falzon, Andrew
Kidman, Michele Lockwood, Patrick Trefz, Monty Webber and Richard
Kenvin.

Set to the music of Sufjan Stevens, Holly Throsby, Dirty Three, Machine Translations, Bonnie Prince Billy, Smog, Explosions In The Sky, Vetiver, Mogwai and The Brown Birds From Windy Hill. For more info on these artists see www.spunk.com.au
The bit's I've seen are epic and you you can get it from his site in Oz (www.litmus.com.au) and soon up here in the US I hope. RK's segments use some footage shot for Hydro and some footage he shot especially for the segment (involves a homeless Windansea  surfer and is pretty cool). He's working, believe me- trouble is mainly no money, and the concepts he's playing with are progressing faster than he can film it seems! There's been some insane footage shot recently, just need to get that editing done.....

just watched it yesterday. It was released in Australia about two weeks ago a day or so after The Present. The short films are great and its nice to see a different format for a surf movie. I really enjoyed the personal connections and stories, especially with Bones (the abovementioned homeless guy)  from Windensea. I did however become disinterested in parts the segments lacked flow and relevance to each other. The surfing is fun to watch and there is some amazing twin fin retro as well as modern footage. Its a mix of art, history and interesting characters. Some of the shot films blew me away and were totally inspiring, others I will skip next time I watch it. definietly worth checking out though.

Hey Chip

I saw it last night, i thought it was pretty cool, if your into the art thing

Good section on the Windandsea carpark and the crew that hang there, nice to watch those mini Simmons in action, ive only seen pictures and have wondered how they go, looks like fun

Thanks so much for the name drops above. I found a whole bunch of RK stuff last night. Loving the idea behind the simmons’ boards. Maybe my next purchase for all these thigh high days in the south!
