Re: fin panel

Hi Guys>>> Am in the middle of a 6’4" 70’s Mark Richards Twin Fin Emulation with > one wing in the tail and am finding it difficult to obtain the fins I need > to match. I have the original board and have templated the fin. Hardly any > rake and has a bit of body. No one local is laying panel and if they do, > won’t deal! Would love a 3 to 4 colour layup panel to get that groovy > rainbow feel. Would anyone like to help out? HOLGER; start laying it up 5-10 layers at a time, changing colors with each new 5-10 layers(depending on the thickness of each color, also use 4oz to keep it light) as soon as each color gels start your next—if you want it real cool -do one set of pigment opagues then the next a tint or do all tints for the true rainbow effect----just finished a new 6’6" RETRO-ROCKET myself and I’m doing the fin deal tomorrow—oh yea inside scoop M.R. is ridng them again but w/ a 2" mini trailer kinda mini keel shape in the center also 30-40 layers should do it depending on how thick or thin you want the fins—good luck

Dear Cdb, Have never layed up fin panel before, what should I lay up onto, how much resin will I need for say 1m of half width panel, and is it laminating mix or sanding mix for the layup? And how hot is the mix? do I need a release agent on the layup surface? thanks Holger

Plain old wax paper works great to do the layup on. Just follow cdb’s directions and Make the color changes as you choose. Good Surfin’, Rich

So I’m to use laminating resin all the way thru, won’t this leave a tackiness to the finish or have I missed something cheers
