today I received a home movie type d.v.d. from our mate “Silly” in en zed [new zealand]…
…music , titles , the works !!
I must say it was illuminating and educational to see footage of someone from this site’s surfbreaks, rather than just reading about them… .
… thanks very much, mate !
ben
…And the skatepark there didn’t look too shabby , either … although the footage of one guy’s wipeout there almost had me throwing up [from sympathy pain , I think]
Hee hee. Thought this might strike a nerve. I didn’t grow up here and to tell the truth don’t even totally understand the rules in rugby. But the only thing bigger than the All Blacks (the national rugby team for those that don’t know) winning is beating the Aussies at anything. Rugby is f…ing religion here. Winning or losing impacts the stock market.
PS: Bert glad they didn’t get ya. I’ve learned heaps from your posts. Done 3 sandwich boards and just starting to scratch the surface. Thanks
at least i will know where to send customers if they need quality repairs done …
that has been the biggest obstacle to selling these boards far a field …its being held to ransom by local board builders who refuse to repair them , forcing clients back onto standard boards or into there own repairs …
many customers have no inclination to get there hands dirty …
my ideal scenario is have acredited repairers …
i got to a stage where unless a retailer could guarantee he had access to quality repairs , it just wasnt worth stocking them , because you knew customers wouldnt get good after sales service …
im seriously impressed by all the craftsmen emerging out of the woodwork …
I don’t understand all of rugby yet either, but it’s heaps of fun to watch. Kind of like a violent mix of American football and soccer…but you have to admit that it was sweet to see the NZ Maori beat the Lions the other night. Chip, if you want some video of some of our waves check out Andrew Kidman’s latest movie and see if you can guess which part was filmed down here…

easy …SHEEP are the giveaway !
that right hander they didn’t surf [!] looks amazing …cold water snapper / kirra !
great movie …I liked Neil purchases bonzer riding on that heavy left there that he and Joe Curren ride .
[you can have the cold and the bull seals , though !]
Ummmmm…maybe? Not technically Kaikoura. We’ve been getting pretty good waves down here, but it’s been cold as. Today I was freezing my arse off in a 4/3 with a polypro rashie on underneath, and it’s not even full-on winter yet! Hope we get some of that NE swell though, it looks like Northland’s getting pounded right now though, 5-6 foot and rising. Coromandel and the BOP should be firing tomorrow or the next day! There’s some great setups up there that don’t get swell that often, so it will be cool to see if this new swell turns them on.
Got some awesome waves in your part of the world when I was in NZ Acolyte. Saw Glass Love the other day and the big mountain backdrops reminded me of a few spots I’d surfed there. I even pulled out a few old photos to double check. That right hand point was M… up the coast a bit from you wasn’t it?
Unreal spot!!! I gotta get back there, locals were pretty cool too.
