re : the "retro movement" ....

okay , I hope this is readable !

… (used without permission) from the current “why is surfing going backwards ?” [!!] … ‘retro movement’ issue of “Waves” magazine…

ben

[I thought of our very own “Platty” when I read this…I think YOU deserve an article too, Dave !]

from the same issue , here’s a still taken during the “Sprout” filming trip …the 7’2" Lightning Bolt single fin …

Hey Ben. Started a retro board for Kay yesterday. It is one of the boards featured in the surfboard construction book that was made available on Swaylocks a while back. It is the Tony Staples 6’6" round square tail. I must be a sucker for gluing blocks together. This time it is Divinycell foam. 200x100x25mm blocks. Again it was being thrown out at work. So I grabbed it. Will take some photos tomorrow.platty.

Platty , did you get hold of Honno.

Hi pandanus. I sent him a e-mail with some photos the other day. Have not heard from him yet.platty.

I have an old issue of surfer with Tony Staples and a couple of other blokes showing off their c1973-5? “quivers” …

I’ll see if I can find it and …

Hey Ben. That would be good. Got some photos.

No1 Gluing jig and stringer/ template.

No2 Rough cut foils ready for gluing.

No 3 The excited owner.

Thanks for posting that chip, I breifly saw the article in the newsagent. hows Mick Fannings MR twin with him doing a cutback thats cool too.

there was a photo a few years back in either longboard magazine or surfers journal with some californian who commited suicide forget his name but any way the the article was photos of people’s quivers and the guy had like a fish type board but dead between the two pins, get ready for this… there was another pin they looked like they all lined up the tail was really wide any one know about this board and how it rode the photo was from the 70’s.

…And , DID you read what Mick’s T-shirt said ?

[I quoted it a while back … ]

The surfer was Gary Keating a Gordon and Smith team rider, lots of Fryes in his quiver. I think that board was done just before G and S got into the Tom Morey Waterskate model . I dont think they made to many of them.

I didn’t know Gary Keating wasn’t around any more. sad.

I have photos somewhere of him too. I think a stay at home , go through the ol’ issues of mags day may be due [no surf and kids on lids EVERYWHERE [school holidays] at the moment , so …that will do for an excuse [two weeks washing and food shopping needed too …

ben

p.s. - for those wondering …the current avatar, 8 sk8te,

… is a “retro” [!!] thingy too , I guess !

   "chip"

Platty , here’s that board of Tony Staples’ … [the other blokes featured with boards were Russ Short , Joey Thomas, Dan Flecky and Mark Levy]
