realization

you know what i have been realizing, after making my 15th longboard, and after being obsessed with surfboards for several years.

“traditional” longboards and the new age ones just aren’t very different at all. they are more are less the same shit!

the bellied bottoms of a log is only about a half an inch deep, and the rails are pinched. big WHOOP! a modern longboard has the bottom flattened, although compared to a flat surface, a “rolled” bottom is relatively flat too, and they usually have more rocker.

same shit!!!

I believe you may want to re-realize your epiphany.

Cheers

Mooneemick

I think your epiphany is deeper than you realize, you just need to take it one step further.

The real wonder is in how radically different new- and oldschool longboards are from a functional standpoint, even with their apparently subtle design differences.

Uh…I think if you checked the rockers in most “modern” longboards in conjunction with the different concave styles generally used (ie Walden, Stewart, Weber, Pearson, et al) the difference from a “traditional” model is staggering. Rails usually have much less effect on how a 9’6" rides as opposed to the rocker layout.

the diffrences in surfboards’ comparative designs

like the diffrences in walking over flat ground…

on staggering diffrences

you only stagger after tripping over a 1/2’’

diffrence in ground height.

you only Trip on a 1/2’’ diffrence

when you are dragging your feet

walden ,Stewart,Weber,Pearson,surf teq et al

are sraggering examples of market - share production entities

that thrive on discriminating analysts

comparativly rating their producyion ‘‘models’’

in fact the truth that surfboards contemporary

are more the same than they are diffrent

is to their credit and detriment.

they all work swell

but?

where’s the growth…

…ambrose…

Dear III,

I am a bit unclear to your last line, “where is the growth…”. Is that a question or some sort of half ass try at a couplet joined to the preceeding line?

Your line about “sraggering (sic?) examples of market-share production entities that thrive on discriminating analysts comparativly rating their producyion (sic?) “models”” is pure rubbish.

Steve Walden, Bill Stewart, Shea Weber and Bob Pearson love to surf and make surfboards as much or more than you do. In the past two years alone I have seen each one of them turn out experimental shapes and test non-traditional materials that number in the dozens. (I never mentioned “surf teq” which is simply a manufacturing company, albeit a supplier for at least one of the aforementioned shapers.)

I really hate to sound so strident here, but get off your long legged pony and consider joining us back here in the real world.

Steve Sales

yep I missed the misspelled staggering.

where is the growyh?

missed thet damn ‘t again’

not wearing glasses in the middle of the night…

discriminating analysts{that I found challenging spell right there]

pure rubbish is an interesting term.

concepts like getting the word out

and market driven progress is a true test of

progress

those that choose to pursue these channels

rather than relying or auto sales or realestate are

credible organisms and should be applauded.

there is a parrallel universe where pure experimentation is conducted without concern for production schedules , market shares advertizing and all the trappings of such eco niches.

Arch typical entities though ,they have become.

sure the moment in time for ""alternative 'stuff ’ in the dozens is cool

I applaud them all .

Each and every one of these experiments

is swell and each is worthy of years

of riding to explore their value fully.

Where is the growth ?

,A rhetoric bomb drop question

that is all it was.

I gotta look up couplet

{almot misspelled cooplet ,I sometimes am

intrigued by miss spelled words as

they reveal meanings beyond my understanding}

it seems thet couplet is a poetry term

the real? world is quite well taken care of by

normal and regular and predictable intellects

some body has to care for the wild growth and obtuse

this is what interests my time and I believe there is ‘a truth out there’

that Industry type experiment is likely to foster ‘more of the same’

type of growth as exemplified

by contemporary media driven trends .

good tidings and blessings on those that choose this path

BUT THERE IS MORE

what it is worth is yet to be seen.

am I just a drooling fool

yep .

are the ''concept boards I build likely to influence change?

are the wierdest first boards

built by some kid down at the strand

in dead end beach town X the key to an alternative future?

I believe hat has ben proven time and time again.

credit the high

credit the low

they all play a part

if we rely on 'THE REAL WORLD’s"

alone we will come up short.

I have a picture somewhere of me sitting in front of mrs Rosencrans’s house

on a pony when I was 5 years old the guy came arround the neighborhood taking pictures

my mom got my picture taken

It wasn’t my pony.

I had a hand me down bike.

It was blue.

I woke up at 1:45 am and wrote you back

after I changed into my work clothes

to resin a door I am making

to replace the barn slider on my store studio

that is rotting away.

the real world is very demanding

and the traffic patterns are quite predictable

joining it is all consuming.

I consider it occasionaly

and yet the lure of new and diffrent

with out the limits imposed by crowded drive times

is way attractive.

Thanks for the invitation.

but this isnt a pony

its just a bike.

my wife got it for me for fathers day.

It Has three spppeeeds

and it is red.

I rode my bike to the hardware store for screws

for the door

the price was up two bucks a pound.

I am gonna go unscrew them now

so I can resin the door

when I have replaced the door

I can work on the twelve boards I have stacked up

to build

they are all obtuse

they are all evperimental

they are all of new and old materials.

the ups man gave me 10$ as a tip

today for getting him a marko blank

he is gonna make and glass it himself

with rr epoxy.

for the neighbors and his kids to use.

This my friend is a whole diffrent world

and It will be dawn in a couple of hours.

the design dawn could be just aroud the corner too

which corner will we choose

the road less travailed?

…ambrose…

I gotta look up travailed.

It is dawn pst.

hope you have a good morning surf

if you can go.

thanks for the hook up with the stringers

about a month in

and brad assures me he will fax me

the invoicing so I can send him

a check to get he wood

a week ago we stacked some local grown balsa

it will be dry by halloween

aloha from waipouli

another world view.

Ambie…perhaps you are a “drooling fool” (those two sound nice together…almost approaching alliteration…).

The question is if the drool is good for you?

Perhaps schizophrenia is just a parallel universe?

That was a funny exchange. Thanks for the laugh, friends. Ambrose post usually seem lucid to me. Throwing a barb his way is like punching water. He punches back with aloha and humor. Off to work. Mike
