recovering an asymetrical blank

I glue 2 - 2" thick sections of low density eps insulation together - got a nice rocker in there, which left me with a 8’ x 2’ x 4" block of foam - I made a stringer from 1/8" plywood and got the shape pretty good on that - I glued the stringer in the center and cut the outline - SWEET - I’m on my way to making a board

Here’s where I’m having trouble - I took the surfoam and thinned out the bottom to where the stringer is

BUT - the thing looks f-ed up on the bottom - I just want a flat bottom without a million dips - any help on how to get the bottom looking nice would help

Don’t use the surform.

So - just use sandpaper on a block with even strokes and eventually it will be semi ok?

Yeah, I hope so. The longer the block, the more regular the curve.

get a sanding belt, aka belt sander replacement

cut the loop straight accross at either side of the seam,it goes diagonal

I prefer 4’’ heavy grit and finer grit ,yes two

cut two blocks to tate the belts contact glued onto

these sanding blocks run lengthwise on a polar track and a latitude yrack will begin to reverse the awful bumps you have inflicted on this pristine surface.

we could then begin to talk about diagonal strokes but that would be premature…

the boards you select for straight and flat will determine the effectiveness of this tooling.

questions?.. you there in the third row

…ambrose…

Thanks - makes sense I’ve got the blocks all set up, just needed some afirmation - what about the stringer in the middle? Just sand over that too with the long block?

Bring down the stringer with a small block plane.

When the rocker really kicks (nose…) in, I get stuck with a block plane and use one of these:
