Aloha ka kou… I’ve been riding longboards pretty exclusively for about 8 years now (surfing for 16), but it’s time to open up my horizons again. I’m picturing Larry Bertleman / Buttons types of carving/turning/in-the-pocket surfing, which my longboards just aren’t doing for me right now. So many ideas in my head I’m not sure which one to go with. One one hand I want to go retro single fin (favorite shape is the Hobie Retro Egg - aesthetically), and on the other I’m thinking maybe I should be looking in the fish direction. (Was just drooling over the Mandala canard quad.) Anyone with suggestions? The more the merrier. For the additional info I’m 170 lbs give or take (probably more give), and about 5’11. I’m sort of vaguely concerned with immediately dropping too short in length (I would choose the full 7’6 length for the Retro Egg), but am not adverse to something that would give me a new outlook on my surfing even though it might take some work. I tend to surf my longboards like shortboards anyway, except for my 10’ single fin. Just got one of Cheyne Horan’s Starfins as well, and was vaguely thinking of designing a board around that as well, but that’s not a must. I know paddling will be different on a shorter board, but I’m no slack -I also paddle outrigger canoe, so the strength is there. Mahalo in advance…
