Recumbent Surfboards

I’m in the beginning design phase of making a couple of recumbent (cyclist sits reclined) bicycles. If anybody is into this and has any pointers/links to share, I would be grateful. I was wondering if the system could be used to propel "recumbent surfboards. The surfer would paddle into a wave with crank, sprocket and paddle wheel… recumbent of course.

Your just too lateral Noodle but I love all your other work.

Noodle, As long as were on the subject of "recumbency", heres a few more that are hardcore, built and proven for surfing; beautifully sleek designs: http://members.aol.com/Kayaksrfrs/merv.html http://members.aol.com/Kayaksrfrs/ws02.jpg (years ago, Merv custom shaped me one very similar to this design and its paddle) http://members.aol.com/Kayaksrfrs/ws09.jpg http://www.humboldt1.com/~woldski/kayak/Big%20machine.html http://www.humboldt1.com/~woldski/kayak/beginning%20waveski.html http://www.customkayak.com/html/mako_surf_kayaks.html

here is another site http://infinitysurf.com/inf_waveski.html

here is another site>>> http://infinitysurf.com/inf_waveski.html Kul site! This guy’s “kayak” allows more turning leverage than a surfboard, to make up for the surfer’s seated position. -Noodle

Been to a couple before. The adapted bikes don’t seem to be adapted quite thoroughly enough for comfort or stability. I would cut and weld a little more metal. Ya might know. I have an idea and hobie alread has it on the market. The only thing left is to meld pedaling with a planing, turning wave hull… a sealed hull.

The surfer would paddle into a wave with crank, sprocket and > paddle wheel… recumbent of course. there is a guy in the ventura/santa barbara area that has a peddle powered board, much like you are talking about, only he sits in the traditional, upright position.looks like he would eat it ( tip over) but I have seen him pedle onto some fairly sizeable surf and peddle hi ass off down the line.looks like fun-being recummbent might make it even more exhilirating!
