First post to Swaylocks… This website seems like a great resource and I’m glad I found it!
I’m considering revitalizing an old surfboard of mine. Instead of building a HWS copy, I’m thinking of skinning the old clark foam surfboard (still in good shape) using veneer and building up the rails and tail block the way Paul Jensen makes his boards. Couple questions…
Are there other threads/archives that cover this?
Will I need to strip the glass or can I just clean the board, fill the dent, then adhere the veneer to the existing fiberglass surface?
What about rebuilding old broken surfboards… Has anyone done this using the method I’ve described?

there is also an epic thread by Bill Barnfield about breaking snapped boards...

Anyone can do that!!!

then post your thread for others to learn...
i learned from BB's thread and appreciate him posting it

Re-read your initial post. I believe the thread from Barnfield is about repairing snapped boards, not breaking them! I think SammyA was just messing with you.
Applying veneer to old glass could be a recipe for delamination. Also as stated above unecessary weight. Actually a new fresh blank just isn't that exspensive.

I'm looking for a snapped longboard to try something similar with. I've successfully combined wood rails and hollow chambered stringer with foam on my last board. A learning experience - it had a lot of goofups along the way, admittedly!
Adding wood and resin to a board with the old glass still on it would equal a whole lot of unnecessary weight. If you want to do a wood/foam combo, I’d say strip the glass and use just the foam as a ‘foundation’.
