recycling broken board

I have a 9’6" that’s almost broken in 1/2 - there’s some damage to the stringer too but it’s not really broken through. Is there anything I can to with it other than salvage the fins & fin boxes? Can I recycle the foam, glass or stringer?

Can I recycle > the foam, glass or stringer? I had the same problem back in 1993. I broke a Gary Linden in half, at the nose. I used a couple of paint mixing stix cut down and forced them in the foam and put some resin on both sides and put both halfs back together. Just make sure if you got that route to make sure everything lines up before you mix your resin. It came out flat on the bottom and thats the only thing i cared about then. You could always, strip it down and shape a smaller board out of the foam and reuse the fins and plug. These are just a few ideas, I hope this helps out. Later, Stephen Berube

Can I recycle > the foam, glass or stringer? You can glass it back together if you still need/want the board…plenty of info out there on that. The foam recycles into smaller shapes, and doing that is great for experience and sheer fun (it’s what got me here to begin with). I have to say with the close tolerance blanks of today you’ll mostly start off with the softer, more fragile inner core, so don’t expect too much. Be careful stripping the glass off. The glass is trash. I never thought about salvaging the stringer but imagine you could (wish I did think of that when making handboards a few years ago). Nels

Hey there. Any interest in selling it? Depending on where and how the board is broken, I would be interested…I have a surf-art related project in mind. Let me know what you think. It’s in the board archives as “recycled fish”… I found it a very rewarding experience, not to mention a cheap way to make a new board.
