I was wondering if you guys knew what point it was that PU was being used for windsurf boards? There seems to be an abundance of old boards destined for the dump on craigslist locally, and I figured this would be a good source of cheap (free) blanks to experiment with (especially if I can use all the polyester resin I have in the garage). I’d mostly be looking at making kitesurf boards out of them, so the flatter rocker of the big oldies would be ideal.
Not sure when they changed but lots of old pu windsurfers are mostly clear with the stringer visable makes them easy to spot.
Im most of the way through a 6.7x20 dimond tail out of a windsurfer
Foam was pretty good under the glass . Try to find one without a
centreboard case. only took 20min to strip the glass off. I just
slowed down a little with the planner when going over the plugs in
the deck.
The urethane foam inside the plastic covered type board you pictured is low quality foam. Brown, amber color, with voids and variable density, I dug a blank out of one of that type windsurfer years ago to practice shaping.
