Red-X Fins - free thruster set

In one of my very infrequent cleanups I have discovered a thruster set of Red-X fins (fibreglass X5 template).

Seeing as I no longer own any boards with Red-X fin boxes, and before I "butcher' them into something else (which would be a pity if they are getting hard to find now and someone out there has been hunting around for a set) I thought it would be better to see if there was anyone out there who can use them "as is".

After all the price is right.

Cheers

Ill take em if its cool

OK they’re yours - PM me your name/address details and I’ll send them off.

i don't know you personally,and/or know enough about you.

i hope you use them in a board with red-x boxes as they were intented and not cut them up.

i pretty much use red-x exclusively and don't know too many people that even know how to install the boxes properly these days.

i've been installing reds for about 12 years............and it's not your typical cut or set.

i have my own way to cut and set that supercedes the original method.

i saw a thread here that was posted awhile ago from huck.

he asked if anyone knew about red-x...........most or all the responses were negative.........that's because most or all the responders didn't know shit about red-x period.

tomatdaum use to contrubute lots on this site and was a show at the first three sways events...........it's too bad that he doesn't come around here anymore, because he has alot of knowledge to share.

no ill/bad intended on my part,,,,,,,,,,

ya,tom's a friend,and so was dennis(rip).

just looking out for my brothers that's all.

Damn, One day lol and the thread explodes.

Herb. I have a tri-fin that has sat finless for almost a year after getting my car stolen that had my other red-x board and both sets of fins…

they look like this Ben

Which is suspiciously  similar to the  Xm system in one of my boards.

Pulled one out and interestingly they are 10mm thick at  the insert and 9mm at thickest part of the foil.

then acqua like i said, you inquired first you should receive them.

if you would prefer some carbon lites etc. let me know,my offer is open to you.

herb

I also have an extra red x fin too if anyone wants it. i think it is a small center fin(3-4 inches) but its missing the brass square nut. I do like red x fin system but too bad they never got popular. I had it on one of my longboard and it is one of the strongest fin system without any hd foam insert or extra glass.

I’m with ya Herb - save the fact I switched to 4 way fin system as I love the other adjustments, but the fore/aft adjustabilty of the RedX was a live changer for me.

Sorry to confess, but I’ve customized many RedX to fit my 4 way boxes, as they are the same width/depth - something Tom hipped me to years ago… (He is a great guy - to bad he doesn’t chime in much any more…)

But - my fins will still work in RedX boxes, so not a total kook out… Ha!

If anyone wants to unload some RedX fins…

Yep, I would prefer that they get used "as is" rather than chopped up - which is why I offered them in the first place.

And seeing that I'll be posting them from Australia, which will cost me, it would seem to be a bit of a waste to send them all that way to be treated as "raw materials".

"Acqua Glassing" please state your intentions for these fins, otherwise Herb shoots to the top of the recipient list.

Cheers

rdm,

thanks for the thought, and yes they would be well received, used, cherished, and kept with my very elite collection of red-x fins,unmodified...........i would even send something back ,,,,,,,,,,say as a trade,,,,,,,,,,,,but acqua has first call and i respect that 100%.even if he was just intending on selling them............i believe he has a business and every dollar counts these days(i know that more than anyone right at this moment.........believe me).i just know that there are fewer of the fiberglass jobs and i would hate to hear of them getting cut up for glassons or something.

here's a twist........acqua if you were planning on cutting them up.............or had no real purpose for them, i'd gladly trade you for some great stuff i have ..............all it would take is a phone call or two to seal that in place...........i would also send rdm something he would really enjoy as well.

i can't do anymore than that right now..............life's been tough for me........here lately.........but i gotta whole bunch of stuff you guys would probably just drool over............no joke !

can't you hear it......................the dice are rolling again !...........lol.

ps. again i meant no harm or embarrassment to anyone here...............i just had to speak my mind.

herb

taylor,

good on you, i believe tom makes those componets for 4way.

he also showed me the simple method of ajusting the base of a red-x to fit 4way,i just never saw the need to change ,as i have like 100 or so boxes for my private installations++++++++++all the bells and whistles ,like bumpers,jigs,screws........i bought them here at sways from a guy in Pa. for like 75 bucks...........so i'm set + i still see tom from time to time and he treats me better than anyone has ever treated me in this industry bar none.................the only other person that comes close would be nancy katin(rip).there was a time when nancy treated me like i was her son.i think many o surfers abroad and here could say the same about her,but tom tops the list..............like i said a brother.............and brothers stick together.(btw bill thrailkill is way up there too, very kind, and giving person ,not just things..........but time ,and knowledge something you can't put a price on).

taylor if you are ever in o.c. you look me up..............i got some things here you'd love...........i have way too many possesions.

herb

ps. tom doesn't make the fiberglass jobs............trueames made them..................that's what make them so rare.

out of say,,,,,,, 20 sets of red-x fins(i have in my possession)..........i own two sets of fiberglass jobs..........x8s and the xt twins....(add: oh geez ,,,i forgot ,i have a set of custom feather fins from halcyon in glass,,,,, that makes 3 sets,,,, thanks again rich!).......a set of 5s would be cool to add to my fin line-up,but i won't miss them,really...............especially if it goes to a person with good intentions, like you taylor or acqua.

if i had an idea of what a red-x box / tab looked like , maybe I could attempt making a pair of fibreglass red-x fins for you ??

hicksy , as far as I know , has your two skateboards ....I hope he , or his kids , get use out of them ?! ....

I already have a skatey [see the "my fin tinkerings" thread [for photos] , believe it or not ?!  ha] ...

I very RARELY skate any more ...I just pulled it off the cupboard , and dusted it off , for old times sake [it was 38 years ago , when Simon last photographed me doing 'the cutback' , and 'the christie' [the  one legged turn thingy]....

so , thanks very much for the kind offer !

....like you , I have waaay too many possessions and waay too little money ...

...so I need to downscale , rather than add to them , but thanks again , for the kind offer !!

okay , ciao for now .... I hope you're getting some nice waves lately , Herbert ?

   cheers !

  " ben j man "   heehee

you let me know ben,we've walked down this path before my brother.

herb

OK. Looks like I’ve started something here that’s going to be difficult to extract myself from without doing damage of some sort.

Firtsly, Herb, if I had known that you were so into the Red-X system/fins (using and collecting) I would have offered them to you first up via PM, rather than posting them up - my apologies. Especially seeing as you say the fibreglass sets are quite rare.

Acqua Glassing, getting an unused board (because of a lack of fins) back into the water is indeed a worthy cause and I have already offered them to you as you were “first up”, so I am indeed bound to this offer. But I would appreciate it very much if you could help me out and take up Herbs very generous offer of an alternaive set of Red-X fins to get your board going again and he can then add my ones to his collection - everyone’s a winner. “What thinkest thou?”

Cheers

Rohan

thanks tommorth !!

 q:

is there any 'cant' built into the fins , or the base ?

  and ...

what is the length of that tab , please ?

.....On my computer screen that first "XM"  fin is showing as  6 1/4 " deep x 6 3/8" base ? [even as a twinny , that would be a BIG fin , in my books ! ]

Is there any chance you could please photograph  it again , next to a tape measure / ruler , or 1" square grid  ?  [sorry if that is a bit of a hassle ? ]

  cheers !

rdm

sorry for getting you caught up in this innocent thread . you shouldn't feel bad about giving to others, especially when you are paying the shipping, and i still will send you guys something regardless the outcome(now i feel bad for even speaking out of place, and should have left this one alone i guess)..................acqua it's up to you my man,i'll have no bad feelings however it goes........really !

herb

ben the sidefins have 4 degree cant built into them,as the boxes are set at 90/0(straight up and down).
