Red X Question

I quickly glassed a 6’x21"x2 3/4 round nose fish this past weekend. I was going to use redX boxes so the customer could move his fins to a desired location (him being a longboarder mostly) but i glassed a 4 oz bottom and a 4+6 oz top and forgot patches on both sides for the boxes. I know the boxes require (i think) 12oz of glass.

The board is hotcoated but haven’t gotten to sand it yet.

What are my options?

sand down to glass on the tail and add patches/ re-hotcoat?

go as-is?

use different boxes?

_______?

Fins will most likely be a twin set with a trailer.

I hate doing things without thinking first.

Flatspell,

You pretty much covered your options. Depending upon:1) how dense the foam is on the tail deck area and 2)how hard the rider will be on the tail deck are two questions you need to consider when deciding which option to take. LokBox is the alternative that we are manufacturing when people choose not to go through the deck with Red X. But, still want a secure adjustable system with all the same foils available.

FlatSpell,

so you want to end up with a fin pattern similar to this?

instead of this?

Either way you should probably add more cloth for strength for any of the fin box systems.

Thanks for the responses.

It’s a Teccel PU blank.

The rider is more conservative, but still, it’s his first board from me and I also want to be selling something I know won’t be coming back.

So people say too light of a glass job for redx?

I’ll have to check out the lokboxes.

waveslider,

the setup will be a thruster, not a quad.

Oh sorry FlatSpell,

I was thinking twinzer when when you mentioned twin.
