REDWOOD STRINGERS

Anyone experience issues with 1/4" redwood stringers lately such as oil, sap, delam, on three stringer clark blanks?

Anyone experience issues with 1/4" redwood stringers lately such as > oil, sap, delam, on three stringer clark blanks? I’ve got that setup on one of my boards (from a Clark blank). I’ve had it for almost a year and haven’t noticed any problems at all. I’ve also got 1/4" redwood stringers on an older board (20 years old at least), however, and I do have deck delam around the knee area. But I’m almost positive that’s mainly because of constant knee-paddling and because of the board’s age and other battle wounds.

I used redwood for the rails of a wooden box paddleboard. Glassed with silmar. It worked fine - no problems from the wood. Fresh redwood would give you problems because of the resin naturally in the wood. Kiln dried wood - which would be what clark would use - should be fine.>>> Anyone experience issues with 1/4" redwood stringers lately such as > oil, sap, delam, on three stringer clark blanks?

Kiln dried > wood - which would be what clark would use - should be fine…Okay this is what i’ve been told by the “BIGGIES” …THERE IS NO MORE OLD CUT REDWOOD LEFT.Only sapwood ,and of course sapwood is oily/sappy,try spruce,or red cedar, they are also sapwood cuts, but cure better? Herb.P.S. basswood is good …not great, but a good wood.MAYBE… GLUE-UPS …YEA!

I order Ceder. It looks like Redwood w/ that old school dark tone and is readily available from Clark. Looks unreal w/ a light tint.
