Hello, i take old beat up boards and strip the old glass off and then reshape and reglass them, i have only done two of these boards through the past 6 months,
and now iam on number three and have a real issue im not sure how to overcome,
i am sure that someone from swaylocks can help me,
When i removed the old glass i removed some of the foam on the rails and there is several decent size holes in the bottom.
I would appreciate any suggestions on fixing these problems?
I am thinking about using epoxy to glass this board wiht any suggestions on doing this?
A heat gun will raise the holes a bit. However, they sound too big for that. Try using some Q-cell. Let the Q-cell dry like 3/4 of the way to the point it starts to roll off under your fingers. That way you can avoid using sand paper and compromising the original shape. After you get close enough to the original shape let it dry and just sand it very carefully. Good luck!
If you’ve got some spare foam chunks lying about, clean up the blank holes and cut pieces to fit…
Glue them on using a TINY amount of PVA glue on the inside of the hole, NOT so you can see the glue from the outside, otherwise the glue line will cause hassles with the sanding…
I’ve applied Hicksy’s suggestion many times with great results. Take heed to the TINY glue amount. Just glue the bottom and if the cracks are more than you’re satisfied with, fill them with a little spackle which is friendly when sanding.
Or you could try the reshaping bit if you haven’t already.
adios, i havent tried the reshaping bit, but i really dont want to lose that much off of the rails or on the bottom, what kind of spackle? are we talking about sheetrock mud or drywall compound?
