Can someone help me understand how the surfboard size change in relation to the rider’s weight in a custom board?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

just like shoes or hats… to make somebody wear smaller or bigger than the size that fits is like medevil torture… SURF BOARDS small board toosmall paddle hard catch less waves…big board too b i g easy early wave catching but sacrifice board control a sharp turn on a G I A N T board is like a turn on a federally funded freeway on ramp as opposed to ripping arround a corner in monte carlo in a 65 mini cooper using the hand brake to set the tail slide …ambrose… thin duck hunting dream T H I C K never sink the rail on the committed line drive dow the line
Smaller boards turn more quickly but are harder to paddle. Small boards usually take off late.
Larger boards turn more slowly but are easier to paddle. Large boards can take off earlier.
Most competent small board riders use a board that is four to eight inches longer than they are tall.
Im a big boy 6’ and 265. Im a former college football player so I carry alot of muscle on my frame. I ride all kinds of boards, shorty 6’8"x21 with alot of thickness about 3". its probably “too small” for someone my size but I think that if you are a stronger surfer you can surf a board smaller than people would recommend.

Surfboard ‘size’ is not enough information.
Are you talking about buoyancy, weight, width, length, thickness, or a combination of them all?
Also, what are you expecting your board to do? Is it supposed to be a scaled up version of a known design, or do you wish to have an outstanding board in one particular performance area?
Are you wanting the minimum ‘size’ you can get away with, or the maximum you can handle?
Thanks everyone for your help!
I was talking of all of the surfboards measures, and of volume, widht and lenght in particular.
Lets say i am building a board (smallest possible) for a guy with 60kg and another one for a guy with a 100kg.
How could i make the best possible board for each guys weight?
I finished my second board recently, for me, and it was fine, and now i am starting to shape for friends with varying weights.
If your friends already surf you should probably shape boards for them similar to ones that they already surf. Just make adjustments. A little wider, thicker, thinner, or whatever. A lot of information is needed to give specifics on what board will fit any one person. Personal preference makes all the difference in the world. Terry
