yeah- i know a few people who were “shocked” when their boards came flying back at them at warp speed.in one case friend was testing the cord holder he just installed-he had the cord stretched to max when the holder didn’t-bawaanggg!!! slingshot into the nuts!!!oh the agony…
Jack O’Neill’s eyepatch is testament to shock cords, no?
Yeah, my first was called a “Zing String.”
oddly enough a friend of mine has a west cliff single fin with a stinger and a shock cord, and they still use the shock cord despite my warning of slingshot effects
Cost me three stitches in the jaw, back then… That was before leash plugs or even suction cups or leash loops: we would drill a hole through the fin. I still have the board, shaped by Mike DIFFENDERFER:
I saw one a few weeks ago in almost perfect condition. I’m amazed the rubber hasn’t turned into powder by now. Oh, he wasn’t using it. Mine usually broke if the surf was over four feet. Just tie it back on. Shorter and shorter with more return speed back toward your head! Mike
