removing acrylic clear coat

Hey all,

In a moment of poor clarity, I decided to spray a filler coated board with Acrylic spray clear in the hope of avoiding a gloss coat layer. However I dont like it and want to go back to filler coat and gloss properly, but have a few questions:

A. Can I just sand it off and then gloss the board?

B. Is there a way to remove it without sanding?

C. For glossing, can I just use a filler coat resin or should i adjust it somehow?

mega shakas

A. yes.

B. probably, but sanding is better.

C. you could thin with styrene.

A. Yes, a power sander will cut straight through it.

B. Yes, a cabenest scraper would work, I would’nt recomend using any chemicals though.

C. Yes but you can and should thin with styrene and add extra wax, check the archives for Koulas reciepy.

Wipe it off w/ acetone or lacquer thinner. Then sand lightly.

I’m with Herb on this one. You can sand it off, but it’s gonna load your paper and you’re liable to heat up your glass job because of your clogged sandpaper. Much easier (not that it’s all that easy) to dump acetone on it, let it sit (very briefly), then hit it with a scraper and sand lightly afterwards.

Howzit Herb, Yep acetone will take it right off. Been there.Aloha,Kokua

finishing resin. . . goes on thinner=keeping it light. . . buffs out properly

Many thanks for the advice.

I put the board aside for a while to think about the possible ways to fix it (and find a bit of cash to keep progressing it).

I had tried a bit of acetone but maybe I need more to really get it off.

Many thanks for your support.

…plenty of lacquer thinner…

then monomere

then a wipe of acetone

yo dont need to sand nuthin
