Since I just figured out (I think) how to do the photo thing, I thought I’d post these guns I got from Reno. I fell in love with the green and purple board, and had to have it (the bottom is purple). Reno wanted to sell the boards as a set, so I got both.
The green and purple board is 9’3" and will probably get shipped to Kauai to surf big Hanalei. The pink and blue board is 9’8" and too big for me. I may end up selling it. Both have a single channel running down the center. Reno says this helps staight line tracking and allows the board to break loose easier for turns. I can’t wait to see.
They look extremely ‘surfable’ for boards of that size (for waves of that size) if you know what I mean. Some guns just look like a stinkbug would be along for the ride, but not those. Nice curves.
I wasn’t able to see the photo, but I remember seeing photos of Reno (surfing Lani’s) in the very first Surfer Mag I bought with my own money. I loved his style. He always looked like he was going fast.
Another surfer from the same era I loves was James Jones. I remember seeing his beautiful guns from the tuberiding Waimea sessions. Is he still shaping? Anyone have contact info.
Reno is proud of his long-time relationship and mentorship with Brewer. His boards definately show the influence. These boards were shaped from his last batch of Clark gun blanks. Reno is currently in San Miguel. He’s hard to get in touch with. If you PM me, I can try to hook you up with him.
