Repair question - missing foam!

I do lots of repairs for a local surfshop in New Jersey. I’m dealing with an interesting one and need some advice. The fin box (full size o’fishl) ripped out of a longboard taking with it a large chunk of foam (10 inches long by 2 to 4 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches deep!) With a normal fin box rip out, I’de fill it and set a new box in with q-cell before laminating some cloth patches over it. What’s the best way to recreate the foam that was ripped out? Should I resin the ripped out piece back in ? Any suggestions?

If you have some thin door skin plywood cut a couple of wood stringer to add on both sides of the box when fill in with foam ( make it strong). It sound like the boards bottom was screwed up bad so add the extra wood but fill the the hole with foam… Then reshape the bottom and glass the whole area filling in with Q-cell and then 4 oz cloth. Past heavy with lam then hotcoat. Then set in a new box and sand. Do a nice gloss cover up with color sand the cover up then clear gloss and polish… Always fill with foam in that big of a hole… and always beef up area around the box the best you can… Nothing worse then having a repair come back?? Good luck… Rob

Just cut the damn tail off and turn it into an transitional period (1968) V bottom like mctavish and co were riding in the shortboard revolution with a nice wide tail.
