When the foam around the stringer has sunk down a bit can you put a few layers of glass there to strengthen it back up. or is there another way.
Pete: You didn’t mention whether this was a restoration/repair or just a daily driver type board. I’d leave it alone unless it is cracked and it is taking on water. You could overheat the area when you prep it or sand it down and cause more problems than you have now. Eventually it may delam but there is no reason to speed up the process if you can avoid it. Just my 2 cents after spending all morning working on some old boards with delams, old crusty repairs and some serious nose and tail rebuilds. Tom S.
it got damaged in transit. i just dont want it to get worse than it is.
I paddle out on a new board before letting it cure fully. I got a nice pressure ding over the back foot area after one session. I was concerned about it getting worse so I went ahead and put a little tail patch over the ding with a few layers of glass. I’ve had the board for about a year now and had no problems with the ding growing. In my case it worked out fine to fix it. Good luck.
Hey pete. if you want to fix it, it might hurt you a lil. Dont just glass over it if its sunk down. I will probobly cause it to delam sometime soon. you might want to cut out the area with a utility blade. Fill it with resin, and sand it down flush with the board to get the shape back and make it solid again. Then put some glass on it. it will be a lil more time consuming but it will be better off in the long run. If you wait untill you have to fix a big delam. would be more work yet. http://dirtyglassing.com
Dents are part of owning a lightweight board with current technology.I’m with Tom Sterne and the other guys and say leave them alone unless they crack and leak. When repairing a dent that is taking water I just lightly glass over it.If you make the patch too stiff it will delaminate. R.B.
I agree with cleanlines but if they bug you…Sand the areas and clean well with a light acetone swipe, lay cloth in the dents, lam, hot coat, feather sand. But you just added weight and for waht? If it ain’t broken , don’t fix it.
