replacement pin for FU-style fins

I gots a fin.

Ain’t got no pin.

I wants ta put one in.

I’m sure I could find some thingamajig, pound it in there, and hacksaw/dremmel it to fit, but if these pins are something very common that cost a few cents at a hardware store, I’ll gladly contribute my nickel to the local economy and leave the change in the “need-a/take-a penny”.

Since it’s a hollow, stainless rolled pin, I’d suggest you go to a marine supply store and get some nails and message it with your friendly local hacksaw

Brass welding rod or hollow tubing.

I’d buy one (or a dozen) even online if I could find them. I’ve made do with a screw the right size with threads filled with epoxy in a pinch.

Håvard

Aluminum rod 4mm thick cut to the right length does fine. You’ll find that at any Home Depot (or equivalent worldwide) in 100cm length, so you can cut quite a few 15mm pieces.

Rainbow Distributing in FL has the stainless steel roll pins in their catalog. Page 11.

Hardware store - check for roll pins. Option B, your friendly neighborhood outboard motor guy, who will have shear pins that can be ground to fit.

I have seen quite a few molded FU type fins that had solid brass pins, so that heavy brazing rod or general brass rod stock should work just fine too.

hope that’s of use
