Reshaping a nose

Any suggestions on the best tools to use to cut the nose off a board and reshape it?

I’m thinking the fibreglass to foam interface will be tricky in trying to get a smooth transition with one part being very hard and the other very soft.

And the cutting? A hacksaw for least disturbance of each of the materials?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If I were doing it I’d use whatever cutting method does the job, do the reshape, and treat it as a repair, fairing and blending however many layers of fabric and resins to achieve the desired results. don’t worry too much about different materials. You’ll end up removing some existing fiberglass anyway to address the foam. How do I know? Been there, done that. My 10 footer is now 9’6". Haha

Hi Rohan, we’d love to see some in-process pics if you are able and willing.  Cheers!

mark the reshape that you desire by useing a template once you are satisfied with how it looks measure back at least 1 foot now grind down the glass and resin do not go into the foam You want to create an area that you can use to blend the new glass with the old glass. Now make the line deck and bottom where you will cut off the glass hacksaw should work oK again do not cut too deep into the foam Once you have a good cut carefully pull back the glass from the nose area You may want to cut some lines on the rails lengthwise to aid in removing the glass Now that you have the foam exposed remark the the nose with you template cut the outline then slowly blend the nose into the rest of the board. Check your work making sure both sides match and it looks pleasing to the eye. When you are finished shaping regalass the Nose of the board sand and blend into the rest of the board.

Thanks for the replys everyone.

Thank you especially artz for the very detailed process description - this will help a lot and is very much appreciated.
