Reshaping rails

I was surprised not to see this discussed before: reshaping rails on an old board.

Reshaping just the top side of the rail. Any advice on any related youtube videos, getting the lap smooth and so on?

I’ve done a couple. It depends on the boards you have to work with. You have to feather the glass all the way around. it leaves a hard spot where the glass and foam meet that is hard to work with and things can go bad real fast. It’s also an itchy messy job.
I found it easier to strip off the deck to get a nice smooth rail deck curve. With wood compsands, you can cut off the rails and build new ones easier.
If you just want to make the rails thinner, you probably should make a new board. I always did this to boards that had enough foam to reshape into a smaller board.
