Resin has turned from blue to green, problem??

My resin has gone from being light blue, to a sea green, is this a problem???.

Is this straight out of the container or after adding catalyst? Also is it U.V. resin? They seem to be green.

Sorry mate, its poly resin in a 20 litre drum. And its lam resin without any catalyst at all.

Over what space of time has this happened? Temperature extremes? Moisture? Thermoset resins are a suspension of solids, maybe you need to heat up a bit and stir it up a bit, I know this helps with old Epoxy resin which can have solid precipitation. Nothing a warm bath and a good shake up can’t fix…

I used some of the resin about 6 weeks ago, it was still blue. The drum stays outside in my shed, which can get up to 35c or more on a really hot day. I used some this afternoon putting in a finbox ( first time, and with a router is soooooo friggin easy! ), and it seemed to “kick” as usual.

The same thing happens to me. Its nothing to worry about. You should worry more about where you store your resin. Storing it in hot places can ruin the quality of the resin. I dont know if you know this but resin DOES have a shelf life and I’m sure extreme heat doesn’t do the resin any justice. Keep your resin stored in a cooler area like indoors. Anyway back to the color changing resin…you’ll be fine you can still use it. If it gets very green then lighten up on the catalyst your probably useing too much.

this happend to me one time ithink it was the air getting to it over time…kinda like oxidation…in my case seemed like some of the styrene in it evaporated off…batches from the manufacturer vary in color from the cool blue we all love to that cool green we all love enough that ive noticed!..p.s time for a resin tint

…its simple

when the resin change whatever color to green is when the activation start.

occurs that the resin have an inhibit agent to retard this reaction, but also have an accelerator component…

and not all the resins has the same ratios of those comp, because depends on the catalyst application (brand, purpose, etc)

so you leave it outside…

the resin at 27ºC last 6 months, then is just old and start the process and lost some characteristics

1 year or more if you put in the fridge

Reverb is spot on,

over time the resin will start to congeal as if catalysed but Veeeeery slowly… Ive got one 20ltr pail that Ive had for nearly 2 years and its like really sticky silicone jelly… I use it as a door stop…
