So I am going to make my first board over the summer. It is a 6’ fish that has 1 sheet of 6oz on the bottom and 2 sheetes of 4oz on the top. What my question was, how much resin and other agents am I going to need in order to fully complete my board. Basically, how much lam resin, sanding resin and gloss resin am I going to need for my bord. Also how much catalys am I going to need. I dont know if color makes a difference but I am adding a small amount of blue tint. also I am not to sure what to do about the hot coat. I know what it does in all but do I need any extra resin?? Thanks. ( also is my fabric setup ok or should I change it. By fabric I mean fiber glass.)
Hello HighTide,
Most of the places that sell materials sell DIY surfboard kits, and they list the items included in those kits online. Some of those places also have basic shaping tools kits too.
1 gallon surf lam, 2 oz catalyst, 1 quart gloss resin (may need more since shooting a gloss can be difficult for beginners), 2 oz surfacing agent and the fiberglass schedule is up to you. If you’re adding the blue tint then I’d suggest using 6 oz fiberglass because it accepts the color really well. Good luck!
But it is ok if I use 4oz right. I know it doesnt accept as much color but it just wont be as dark right?
Also what about sanding resin? I am not sure how much or i i even need it? and what am I supposted to do with the hot coat? what do I use?
