Resin Recipes Chart - Printable

i have learned alot from the vast resource that is swaylocks, so now it is time for me to give back.  its not much, but i wanted to share my work with people that could use it. obviously this is not meant for the experienced glassers who probably have this in their heads already.  but for the garage guys, it might be helpful.

i have glassed my first 7 boards in the past 4 or so months, and just spent a while putting together this chart with all the resin numbers i use on a regular basis.   it includes resin quantities from 1-70 oz with volume percentages in CC’s from 0.5% - 10%.  intended for mixing MEKP, Surfacing agent, and styrene into lam and gloss resin.  also includes formula for making sanding resin out of lam resin and the famous kokua gloss formula (with reichold gloss resin) , along with some other info such as uv powder ratio and volume of a droplet.

if there is anything i could add, or improvements/fixes to be made, please let me know.  it would be nice if it could feature some general resin quantity guidelines for lams/hotcoat/gloss depending on cloth and board size, but i didnt open that can of worms.

i included the printable PDF format as well as the editable microsoft excel format, though i created it on apple numbers format.  it should print on a single sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper.

i printed my chart out and taped it to the cupboard where i keep all my chemicals.  enjoy!

Here ya go:

$20 digital scale + 45% hardener ratio = Done.    100 grams of epoxy means you’re using 45 grams of hardener.

Accurate to the gram and tough to beat for consistency, especially with super small quantities.    Faster than interpolating off a chart, too.

An epoxy version of that would be perfect.

Thanks for posting.  Now add columns for gel time at varoius temperatures.  I’m confused.  Is this All MEPK, because you mention uV powder as well

i didnt want to factor gel time in , since there are many variables and, i use my notes and records to just “eyeball” it based on the thermometer in my garage.

the percentages in the table can be used for anything; mekp, surfacing agent, styrene, etc.  i use mekp as well as UV.  i can see how the chart is confusing, but it works for me, and im just putting it out there if anyone wants it.  its likely that a similar, better version exists out there but i never found anything.

and the droplet volume is very approximate, obviously.  i use it for ding repair batches mostly.

But is the catalyst MEPK or UV powder

lol mark either use your brain for a sec or dont use my chart.

I have been using the one on this site with success for a few years, includes temps.

Thanks for posting yours.

Pretty funny! 23 posts and you are already a dick!  Welcome to Sways!  You will fit right in!

“7 cc uv powder per Gal” or is it** “2-3% MEKP”**  Maybe if you use your brain before you post it will help

Jeez…you can use both. MEKP so your floor isn’t sticky. UV so you can get your work done fast.
