resin tints

how do you to resin tints. someone said use food coulring!!! have not got a clew.

you can buy them on the internet from surfboard manufacturing suppliers, or at most marine supply stores. the thicker the better. basically, you add pigment 'til you think you’ve added way too much…then, add a whole lot more.

Art supply and hardware stores also.

Tints are transparent colors.

Pigments are opaque, can’t see thru it.

Never mix more than two tablespoons per lam side, however much resin you mix…it won’t set up right.

Pass on dark tints, they show all flaws, and you’ll have some.

Yellow is easiest

Pigments, if too strong, can make you board look like a popout.

cool thanks for that. i live in wales uk so i will see what i can find.

ok, so i exaggerated the amounts a little bit…but i’ve done tints before that came out waaaayyyyy too light, and it looked kinda eh…i like a nice bold tint (but not quite opaque…and certainly not like a popout). thanks for the clarification, tho…

When at the art supply store, what do you look for? I’m sure it doesn’t just say “Resin Tint” on the tube/jar.

Tryit…colors!

Remember…bright colors fade really fast.

mike i lived in the uk up until a few years ago (now over the water in ireland) i used to get my paint/pigments from car shops you can use cellulose, but wear a mask

If you struggle to get some I could send you up some (for a nominal fee).

I’ve got basic colours (black, white, red, blue, green, yellow)

I live on the North Devon/Cornwall Border.

were did you get them from. got a web site for a company in redruth that sales them but if you got some i could try first that would be cool. let be know how much.
