Resin Types

Hey I am buying Silmar S249A laminating resin from fiberglasssupply.com with MEKP catalyst. Can I use this resin for the laminate, hot, and gloss coat or do I have to buy a different type or add something to it. I checked in the archives and nothing was that clear about it.

The 249-A is the laminating resin. By adding surfacing solution (styrene and parafin wax) you get hotcoat resin. Generally, use twice as much of this solution as catalyst. Catalyst should be 1.5 percent of the batch volume. Gloss resin is a different formulation but it is possible to use a modified hotcoat mixture or a hybrid of real gloss and hotcoat to get certain results…
