just wondering if anyone has ever heard of resin called dion or deon or something like it. i was talking to someone at a shop and he said he liked dion resin the best. never heard of it. does anyone know of this. he said it doesn’t crack as easily as silmar.
Sure…Dion Iso…the best.I havent seen it in a long time but I think its still around. Most polyester board builders use Silmar…its a cost thing I guess.Ross Houston at Atlantic Surf materials was making a formula called 50/50 blend that is similiar to Dion. That was a year or so ago. R.B.
Dion is made by Reichhold. They are making these products again, available in some parts of the country. I know it was recently being sold back east. Doubt it is available in SoCal as clear Iso’s have to much VOC’s. Where are you located?
i’m in wilmington n.c. i would love to try it if i could find it.
I would call Patrick at US Fiberglass (WRV) in NC. They break down materials, last time I talked to him he mentioned that the Dion surfboard resins were available in that market. He might stock it. If you are looking for a drum, you can call Composites One.(www.compositesone.com) They should be able to help them, but you will probably need to get a sales rep from C1 and explain exactly what you are looking for. I’m in wilmmington NC too, I need to get some more resin so would you be intrested in going in on it together?
when you call US fiberglass if you ask for leanne she will probably give you a better deal than patrick. shes normally all about small time builders. austin
kevin, i would be very intrested in buying some dion. not sure if you know tony butler at sweetwater, but they stock dhd boards. he told me they use dion resin. i have been using silmar for a couple of years and would be willing to give it a shot if it’s better. anyone know about how much this stuff cost per 5gal. or drum. is it as easy to work with as silmar. sorry for the punctuation, my keyboard is about shot.
met Tony a few times, just the other day I saw him right out behing the store and he was ripping. Those dhd boards and the look pretty solid to me. Was it dhd that was putting the rods in with the fcs to give it more strength? I haven’t done much with glassing, just finshed my glassing for my second time but I need more resin anyway. I would be glad to give it a shot though.
kevin,if need anything let me know. i do the repairs for sweetwater and also build my own boards. i have glassed about a hundred boards so far and they get better all the time. would love to try some dion. i’m giving u.s. fiberglass a call tomorrow.
dion resin at u.s. fiberglass is $24 a gallon for anyone intrested
