Hey,
I understand that ResinResearch Ultra is out already, but I heard there is Ultra 2
maybe someone know’s something about it?
BTW, Pictures of the product will be lovely.

I asked about Ultra availability on RR’s facebook page and they said there will be Ultra and Ultra 2. Ultra is standard and Ultra 2 is even brighter, for an upcharge. Not sure if it’s in stock anywhere because all of the supplier’s websites don’t mention it at all.
Available in FL, and CA right now and through our AZ plant as well. Jamie has the rest right, Ultra is a stock item, U II is a bit more. Photo is standard Ultra vs. a PH board
Greg, I had no idea you had newer resins available… Is there anything else we should know I need to order some resin soon and would like to know what the options are…Are these newer resins replacin QQ and CE? Or are they something different?
Stingray and the San Diego crew have been working with the PH resin…(purple haze)…sales rep did mention some new stuff comming down the line but most of the Down South guys are doing color work so…I’ll let RR do the sales work…We’re happy with the PH…if you’re doing all clear work I’m sure the new stuff will be better for you…funny how a bright white shortboard is for some reason better???
will look shit on wood or carbon
a t l been doing it for years
send a pic of the ultra on carbon/wood
Chrip, these are just high tech additives we add to the resin. We have found that the Ultra and Ultra II look and last best when added to the CE formulation. So generally you buying Kwik Kick CE Ultra or Ultra II.
Stingray, I tend to agree but there was a demand so we did it. I like PH as well. Are brightened boards faster or do they just look faster?
Huie, exactly. Not for colors, not for carbon, not for wood. Ultra looks OK on some colors but not Ultra II. I thought from the beginning that this was a bit gimmicky but if we were going to do it we’d do it the best of anyone which means it has to hold up well, not add to any eventual yellowing and be versitile on many products. That last part has to do with why we have two different ones, there are lots of other markets which want bright but not intense glow. Shortboards are the only ones at this point that are demanding that.
didnt understand for making another kind of ultra.
In which cases you will use ultra 1 and which cases you will use ultra 2?
I Have another preety important and good question to ask:
due the higher price of the Ultra resin comparing to “normal” RR epoxy is it possible to get the same result using the ultra only for the lam?
I mean, im doing gloss coat on every board I make so let say:
Lam-using ultra
fill coat:normal kwik CE/Ultra
gloss: normal kwik CE
and still get almost the same result?
and, is it possible to mix the board with diffrent resin? for ie. i have a board the one side of it clear and the other full color.
is it possible to use ultra for the clear side and kwik for the color side?
how bad is ultra on color?..maybe it not that bad
We decided to do two because shortboards are demanding really bright resin while longboards and SUP’s are liking something brighter but not to the extent of Ultra II. At this point I am making brightened resins of at least 7 different flavors. Everyone has their opinion and preference. This isn’t that difficult for us but for the distributors is getting to be a nightmare. It may turn out to be just a fad, I’ve seen floresent paints come and go.
We’ve used it a number of different ways and mostly it’s just used in laminates now. Then just use the regular CE, PH or even clear for the rest. IMHO CE is most applicable for the rest of the build but that’s looking at through my eyes. Everyone sees color differently.
On colored boards everyone will have to experiment with all the different options. I did a board with a trim lap bottom and then inlayed the deck clear with the CE Ultra then just a regular CE over that. Looked good. Used about a cup of the Ultra.
so no big diffrenece if i only use ultra for lam and ce for the rest instead all ultra’s ?
one last thing, I normally polish my board after gloss, how do you think this is work with the ultra?
thanks greg, im going to invite some from shaper supply and hopefully buy it in Israel when they will be avaible.
Thanks Greg…Hello Swaylocks.com,
I do not work for Resin Research. Sometimes when something works great there’s no reason to change. The PH works. My talks with the sales rep made me stick with PH. At this point people want some sort of Ultra White or Ultra blue/purple blank. RR made a product for that. But people like me saw that the yellowing problem got solved a long time ago… And if you are still having that problem it is not the resin…and I’m old school and Low Tech. Use the same resin from start to finish. Stop playing backyard Chemist…Shop temp matters, cure times matter, Proper mix matters. Air flow or lack of flow matters…Clean hands too!
Stingray
Idan,
Isreal will have this eventually. As for polish this won’t be any different. It’s just additives in the same formulations. Stingray, thanks.
