RETRO FAD

I was just browsing through the internet and I came accross McCoy’s new site and what was most interesting is that he has continued to develop his boards that are so different from the mainstream through all this time. In the late 70’s and early 80’s he was one of the most highly regarded designers and now none of the top surfers are riding his boards except Cheyne Horan. Even with this retro fad going on and the newly reborn interest in desings like the egg, fish, five fin bonzers, etc., which in my opinion is great. I wonder is there anybody out there riding his boards? I would like to hear other peoples impression on this. BTW the website is mccoysurfboards.com, thanks.

I cam remeber way back when in my youth. I had friend that shaped me a “Lazor Zap” just like CheyeneHoran was riding at the time. You should have seen the looks I got here in Santa Cruz me and another friend where the only two in town that had such a board. It was the double wing swallow, 5’10, 17.5" tail, ~21". It was a hell of a board though loose, fast, and fun… I remeber a S.C. manufacure glassed it for me kind of laughed at it but a month or so latter he started shaping thrusters using the template from my lazor zap. I like the looks of those nuggets of McCoy’s looks like he has just added some width in the nose to those wing keeled boards that Cheyene Horan was ridding after the Lazor Zap’s

Speaking of wing keeled fins…anybody know where to get one that could fit into a typical “rainbow style” fin box? If that’s asking too much perhaps some thoughts on how to make one.

I’ve seen them at Strong Current in Haleiwa, Hawaii. Looks like they have been remaking them. They have an ad in Longboard Magazine if you need the address and ph. #. Someone told me they ride a lot better if you put them in backwards.

Thanks fella’s - I’m gonna look into the LB mag.
