Can you dig out, clean up, and re use fcs plugs??. I have a shortboard that i dont use, and it has some fcs plugs i’d like to save for another board.
“Can you dig out, clean up, and re use fcs plugs??.”
Yes. I do it all the time.
The kid next door gets free repairs because he brings me broken boards. We take out the FCS plugs and save them for future repairs. Nice to have extra screws too. Just break off the old resin and sand with coarse sand paper before installing. Try not to mangle the plugs when removing them.
Keep in mind that plugs are cheap so don’t waste too much time trying to save $5.00…
ummm, i wouldn’t bother.
i had to practically beg to get fcs plugs wholsale as a backyarder
retail cost is 60$ in a surf shop for real fcs plugs
F#$k that
i was gunna try a us company via internet if i couldnt get them over here for cost
also you really have to get the fins as well
lucky they thought my boards were okay ,and i was worth dealing with aye
No worries thanks guys, i guess my thruster lives to gather dust another day!!
give it to a grommet
Hello Beerfan ,
Chipfish sent me a PM about this thread so…
You can break out the old plugs with a large screw driver or what ever tool you have. Clean up the plugs and save them for future use. I have FCS installation instructions that I got from FoamEZ.com. I also bought some of the jigs and stuff from FoamEZ. Most of the jigs and stuff have been made by Hicksy and Chipfish.
You can use your fin to set up the plugs , no need for a special tool. Wrap tape around the fin so that resin won’t stick to it…
I also recommend making wooden jigs for setting the fin angle.
I got some long screws from the hardware store. Replace the FCS set screws with the long screws during install. That way your screw holes don’t fill up with resin.
It’s hard for me to explain… Think about it…
You can do it!
Share the stoke…

Thanks mate, that’s good to know. I’d rather use them for another board if i can re use them. I have a young daughter, and, as much as i love her, kids definately restrict the brewing/shaping budget!!. Wouldn’t swap being a dad for all the boards or beer in the world though!
Thanks mate.

an excellent re use of fcs plugs is to make a paper towel dispenser for the bathroom or kitchen.
simply install them paper towell width apart on a tail or nose cutoff
and hang the dowel on two old fins and through the paper roll
and there you go.
for toilet paper
set the fin plugs closer.
a great oppertunity
to use em up
when they become obsolete
and fins fall from fashion
