Rice Paper in QLD

Hi Guys,

Anyone here from the Sunny Coast (QLD, or nearby) that knows where I can get some rice paper to do my decals on? I’ve tried heaps of art places up here but most of them look at me like I’m from another planet! I can’t believe I’m having so much trouble tracking some down. I’ve had some made from a surfboard Decal place but would like to change things around etc.

Thanks Again,

Mick

Chase the dream, not the competition!

I’m in sydney and started off making my own with rice paper from art shops but it was such a pain in the arse and ink bleading issues ect…  I get mine from surfdecals.com.  They’ll print what ever you want.  I think I get an A2 sized sheet for $95.

got stuck in your shoes not to long ago trying ot finish a board for someone.. ran out of rice paper

go to walmart or whateve ryou got and get tissue paper(packing gifts etc), works just as well for me

hey bud, im in vicco and im doing the same thing...trying to find rice paper!!

I never used it and im wondering if its going to be a pain in the butt with bleeding ink etc etc.

the surf decals option might be the go.

i have seen somewhere along the line shaping equipment suppliers that had sheets of decal paper for sale, ill see if I can track down where I saw this

Thanks all. I'll try the tissue rapping paper and do a little test run on some blank off-cut. Saltbush, I've read through the archives here that you need to set your printer on a low ink setting. Either way, I think a test run first before destroying all your hard work!

BM, good idea, I'll give it a go. Thanks again everyone!

Mick

Mick,

Have you tried Oxlades in Brisbane -  http://www.oxlades.com.au/calligraphy.htm

Eckersleys may be also worth a try - art@eckersleys.com.au

How goes it !!!

I get all my rice paper from "Dymics" (check spelling) book stores ..... they have a stationary supply section here in Sydney .... printer mate of mine put me on to it three or four ago !!

They have all different types and sizes, top quality, cheap and tons of it

They'll have a main store in Qld somewhere ....problem solved

Hey Mick

I get mine from an art supply store.

Its called "procecced rice paper"

A little bit thicker than tissue paper, and I mean only a little bit.

I design all my decalls on my computer.

The rice paper is thick enough to go through the printer without getting caught and thin enough to lam without noticing it.

I can put anything I want on a surfboard.

What ever you can print from your computer, you can put on your board.

On dark colored boards, you can see the paper a bit.

But white and light colored boards, no problems

Cheers
