Rice Paper lam over carbon............

Greetings all…

Not too big a concern, Just curious what everyone thinks…

I put my rice lam over carbon and laminated 4oz over and I get this outline of the laminate… Is this common for lams over black or dark colored cloth???

If not… what could I have done wrong… I got a great wet out, everything saturated awesome, no bubbles…

what do you think???

Thanks…

Howzit Zosurf, That's the rice paper, that's what happens when you put it on dark colors and since the carbon is black it shows. I have seen it happen almost every time with dark colored boards, about the only thing you can do is trim as close to the design as possible. Actually it doesn't show that much in the picture and I've seen worse ones. Aloha,Kokua

it also helps to use the thinnest lightest rice paper you can find… heavier stuff prints nicer & with better details, but shows up more against dark colors…

just my 2 cents worth…

Howzit Keith, I find that some of the thinner paper is denser and actually shows up more than thicker paper. The store I buy from carries 2 types of rice paper and I've tried both with the thicker one being the better of the 2. Another good aspect is the thicker paper runs through my printer just like regular paper which makes printing a lot of lams much more user friendly. Aloha,Kokua

hey kokua, what is the best type of ink to use for making lams. i just got a screen kit and have acyrlic, enamel, and vinyl inks. will any of them bleed?? thanks, sean

Howzit nelmo, Sorry I can't help you since all my lam work is done with an ink jet printer. If you know any body who does silk screening they should be able to help you.Aloha,Kokua

t’anks bruddah, i will go to the big board and find all the screen heads out there. sean
