Rick James kneeboard find

Found this 5’ RickJames Kneeboard at a pawn shop its numbered 526 along the strnger, can anybody shed any light on this neat old board, it has a rubber coated fin

That’s a neat board. I’ve never seen anything like it. Big old tail, too, and a single fin at that! Have you gotten a chance to ride it yet?

Hi,

If you go to www.ksusa.org someone will be able to tell you for sure.

It looks like a fairly standard “slab” shape that came out of the Cronulla, Australia region in the 70’s mostly from Chris Crozier  with design attributed to this surf photographer chappy called Peter Crawford who also made the shape popular (he’s an Aussie legend).  There’s an old (Pepsi, Orange Crush?) ad that features a Pete with a similar board.

Big flexy fin and lots of speed from the wide tail.  Maybe yours also has some “Shoe” inspired S-deck.  Shoes were a whole other branch of boards.

I’m still fixing the dings, we had swell all weekend last weekend and I did not get much done to it, but I will have it water ready soon.

Well, I’m Rick James, bitch! (If you don’t get the reference here is a link to it possibly one of the greatest sketch comedy shows of all time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUb06iLjTKA&p=F272CC14B9C52B38&playnext=1&index=2 ) Could you stand on that thing? Let us know how it works.
