Sorry to hear of the passing of Ricky Grigg, he did so much, not only surfing but in oceanography; he was one of my heroes. Not stoked on the passing of Skitch Hitchkock either; he was one of the most talented if not the most talented skater of his time.
I am sorry this thread is not getting more love - Ricky was not a shaper as far as I know but I do remeber some photos of him on some pretty big waves back in the no-cord / black and white photo / he-man days and I also remember him being the first to ever pay serious attention to oceanography and swell models ages before cams and surf forecast hipsters got on the internet to tell all the maggots to ‘go to the beach dude’
The life of a man like that is a testament to the true spirit of surfing, the powerful individual pursuit of beauty and poise and knowledge in sync with the ocean.
