Seems like a bad choice of venue. I thought the whole point of the Search Contest was to hold the contest in great conditions at a relatively unknown spot. The only thing interesting about it for me is to see a contest held at a place I have actually surfed. Given all the breaks in the area and the long waiting period for the contest it seems silly to be running heats at Middles in onshore poor conditions. The waiting period still has 11 days to go......why not use the time to get good conditions. Don't really understand the choice of Middles.....why hold a contest at a break that gets blown out by the trades most days by 10:00 in the morning? Its a great break, don't get me wrong but there are so many other spots that would be better choices for an event that needs to run heats all day. Why not Wilderness?
Well wilderness is the venue if there is more size. But I agree out of all the caribbean islands why Puerto Rico (When they announced it would be in the caribbean, I swore it would be in Barbados) and why this early in the season before the big lows really start pushing off the east coast and the trades are still fairly high. If you look at the forecast for the next week this is the best size-wise conditions. Also a lot of the new school guys enjoy conditions like this as it opens up the aerial realm. But I have to agree this is definitely the most disappointing location for the Search yet. (Mexico was awesome, Reunion looked like a blast, Bali wasn’t a surprise but a great contest and Peniche had plenty of venues for all conditions.)
Did ya see the two giant power hacks by T. Knox today?
Not yet, waiting for the heats on demand to have that up. My fantasy surf team is sort of screwed half of them wound up on the same side of the draw.
