About 100 surfers, family and friends gathered yesterday at Cardiff Reef to say good bye to Jim. An Army Chaplin and bugler participated and presented a flag to immediate family. I only knew Jim since the 80s when I moved to Cardiff from the Rancho Bernardo and North Poway horse country after my daughter went to college and we sold the horses. Jim was a former soldier and RVN vet. He had a VA disability and could be found almost daily at the Reef. What bullets couldn’t do in RVN, cigarettes did. Lung cancer. RIP Jim
When I look at the picture’s honering Jim’s spirit and Life. I can’t help thinking about how this thing, we call surfing brings us together to share waves and the love of the ocean, and the love for each other. This respect bonds our spirits together as surfers, knowing one day we will be passing and leaving the gift of our lives’s behind for others to be inspired by.
God Bless You Jim Hoffman!
