Long Time Lurker , First Time Poster
Grew up in Monmouth NJ, Currently living in Brookly near coney island, mostly surf Rockaway.
Looking to try out and learn about shaping and was wondering if theres any kind souls out there who wouldnt mind me tagging along to watch as they mow out some boards, be it in a garage or prof bay.
I have gotten my hands on shaping 101 and have been checking out the archives however, im more of a visual person and would learn best from watiching the real thing go down.
I understand this is an art form and would love to learn from a true artist.
Anybody know someone who they can put me in touch with or anyone in the forums that i can hook up with.

Sir - I suggest you go and talk to the local hand shapers by ordering a shaped blank. Then ask if you can watch. Perhaps ask questions about techniques. Option2 - just run a Google search to find shaping lessons and travel for,a weekend trip to learn a few techniques.learn how to use that planer and the rest will follow … but start if your hearts into it at any time.

Brian,Matt and Dave are the best. They have a tutorial on their site that makes it almost idiot proof.
Everytime i went to pick materials up i learned something new from them, they also put up with my endless questions.
They also offer shaping classes if youd rather start with someone watching you.
Their prices cant be beat… even with the tolls and gas it comes out cheaper than ordering online.

Do a search for shaping lessons in Totowa NJ. There use to be someone there that would give lessons. I’d offer to help but I’m way busy rebuilding a Sandy damaged house.
